Alucobond Architectural can provide you with complete PDF specifications, CAD drawings and technical support.
Dibond PE Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) as manufactured by 3A Composites GmbH shall be 2mm/3mm/4mm/6mm thick and consist of 2 layers of 0.3mm thick aluminium sandwiching a core containing UV stabilized virgin low density polyethylene.
The aluminium skins shall be of alloy AlMg 1 (EN AW 5005 nearest equivalent) having a minimum tensile strength of 145 MPa and 0.2% proof stress of 110 MPa.
Aluminium skins of reduced corrosion resistance produced from 3000 series or 1100 series alloys are not acceptable.
Core materials containing re used core cheap term paper material, which could contain other impurities proven to be detrimental to the integrity and long term performance of laminated materials shall not be used.
The face sheet of aluminium shall be finished in a factory applied modified Polyester coil coating in accordance with EN13523, ECCA Quality Label and Voluntary Specification AAMA 2605-11. Rear face aluminium sheet to be left in chemically cleaned mill finish condition unless noted otherwise.
Front face sheet, shall be factory pre finished in colour or finish selected from the manufacturers Standard Dibond Colour Range.
Other available finishes from the Specialties range of finishes include:
• Butler Finish Colour Range
• Mirror Range
• Structure Finish Range
• Anodised Finish Range
Non standard colours or finishes to customer’s selection will be subject to minimum order quantities. Factory applied coil coatings shall be protected by strippable PE foil, and should be removed immediately upon installation. The factory applied finish shall be suitable for application of silk screening, graphic lamination or overspraying with polyurethane or acrylic spray finishes without the use of any pretreatments, primers or undercoats.
All 3rd party applied finishes shall be in accordance with their manufacturer’s recommendations.

Dibond PE panels, prior to fabrication shall be stored horizontally on a dry, flat, level surface and protected from damage.
Fabrication techniques as recommended by 3A Composites and Alucobond Architectural shall be strictly adhered to. These include cutting, grooving, folding, bending, rolling and edge treatment. Information relating to these processes and other requirements can be obtained from Alucobond Architectural.
Dibond PE to be supplied with a single 5 year warranty covering manufacturing defects, delamination and factory applied paint performance and shall be supplied by the panel manufacturer, 3A Composites GmbH. All warranties for 3rd party applied finishes must be obtained separately from their respective manufacturers or applicators
Routing & Folding
For individual designs DIBOND® can be shaped with the so
called routing and folding technique which allows a variety of
shapes and design to be manufactured. A V-shaped groove is
routed on the reverse side of the DIBOND® using a disk or end
DIBOND® can be formed three dimensionally by means of
conventional metal and plastic fabrication methods. The
minimum bending radius is fifteen times the plate thickness.
DIBOND® panels can be fastened together or joined to other
materials with standard rivets for aluminium constructions. For
outdoor use and areas of high humidity we recommend
aluminium blind rivets with stainless steel mandrils in order to
prevent corrosive edges.
Jointing & Fixing Techniques
DIBOND® can be joined by means of standard processes used in
metal and plastics manufacturing.
If DIBOND® needs to be joined to structural metal parts other
than aluminium, or if fasteners (e.g, bolts, screws) are used, the
following material guidelines need to be considered.
- Fasteners and structural parts made of aluminium, plastic of stainless steel are applicable.
- When using other materials insulating intermediate layers or protective coatings are required to prevent corrosion.
- For the outdoor use of DIBOND®, its thermal expansion needs to be considered in order to avoid deformation.
- The minimum hole clearance for the fixing material in the panel depends on and must be chosen according to expected expansion of the panel in order to avoid restraints or deformation.
