Understanding the changes to National Construction Code (NCC) 2016
What is AS5113?
AS5113 is a published Standard which sets out procedures for testing and classifications of external walls according to their tendency to limit the spread of fire across their surface and between neighbouring buildings.
This full-scale façade test of the external wall system, known as BS8414 test method forms part of the British Standard BR 135.
BS8414 comprises an 8mt x 3mt wall with a 1.2mt ‘wingwall’ with the structure including a 2mt x 2mt crib opening where an approximate 4-megawatt fire is ignited. This burns for a period of 30 minutes.
The key difference between BR 135 and AS5113 in relation to the BS8414 test is the addition of a debris criteria within AS5113 – a maximum of 2kg.
What is CV3?
CV3 is a verification method.
This verification method calls up AS5113 which has been included as an Amendment to the NCC 2016 – effective 12th March 2018.
Does Alucobond PLUS pass AS5113?
Alucobond PLUS, along with other Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) and including solid aluminium, does not meet the 2kg debris limit criteria when tested to BS8414 within AS5113.
All other requirements of the test have passed.
Alucobond PLUS passes BS8414 within BR 135.
How does Alucobond PLUS comply with the NCC 2016 amendment?
Alucobond PLUS has been tested to AS5113 and is supported by an engineering analysis.
A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) has been issued for Alucobond PLUS, meeting NCC 2016 – A2.2 Evidence of Suitability.
The Alucobond CodeMark Certificate CM30070 provides evidence of suitability, confirming the performance requirements of the NCC2016 Volume 1 have been met (including CP2 & CP4). The assessment includes a large scale facade test against the criteria within AS5113.
The CodeMark CoC is backed by extensive NATA approved fire testing and independent fire engineering.
